Legislation on wearing military uniform in Ukraine

Ukrainians risk receiving a large fine for illegal wearing of military uniform. The legislation in force since 2019 provides for administrative responsibility for violation of the rules for using military insignia and state awards.

Who is allowed to wear military uniform

Only certain categories of citizens have the right to wear military uniform:

  • military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations
  • cadets of military educational institutions
  • reservists during exercises
  • military conscripts during military training
  • students of military lyceums
  • retired and reserve persons with supporting documents

Fines and penalties

For the first violation of the law, a fine of 2550 to 3400 hryvnias is imposed with mandatory confiscation of uniform. In case of repeated violation within a year, the amount increases to 6800 hryvnias.
