Continue to sow chaos in Central and Eastern Europe, reports The Guardian. The death toll has risen to 16 people. In Poland, five people died, including a surgeon returning from work. A woman in the Czech Republic drowned in a raging stream, and seven more people are considered missing. The number of deaths in Romania has reached seven.
Tens of thousands of people have left their homes in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. The flood broke through dams, flooded streets, and caused power outages. In some places, entire neighborhoods were underwater.
Storm "Boris" has caused the most severe floods in the last two decades. Poland has declared a state of emergency in the southern regions. Authorities continue to fight the aftermath of the disaster and provide assistance to those affected.
The floods also caused significant material damage, destroying houses, roads, and infrastructure. Agriculture has suffered serious losses.
Although rain is expected to ease, river levels may remain high for several days. Authorities urge people to be cautious and to follow safety recommendations. The European Union and other countries are offering help to the affected regions. Damage assessment and planning for recovery work are underway.
