Chinese citizens participating in the war on the side of Russia do not receive government support

According to The Economist, there is no confirmation that Chinese citizens fighting on the side of Russia against Ukraine receive government support. Many of them go to war due to thrilling feelings and high salaries. Some also have nationalist motives.

'I flew to Moscow after seeing a video where they promised a high salary,' one of the Chinese volunteers says.

Not all Chinese volunteers choose Ukraine. One joined the Russian Federation because he wanted to fight against the Japanese who assist Ukraine. He was killed in battle. Most Chinese fighters participating in the war on the side of the Russian Federation express their disappointment and urge their compatriots not to go to war.

'Russians treat us like cannon fodder,' said one of the Chinese mercenaries.

According to The Economist, some Chinese volunteers fight on the side of Ukraine. One of them was detained in China after posting anti-Russian and pro-Ukrainian messages. He joined the Ukrainian army but was killed by the occupiers.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian troops captured two Chinese citizens who participated in the war on the side of Russia. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently verifying this information. Interrogations of the detainees are being conducted with the participation of translators in Kyiv, according to international law.
