Joint Defense Financing: Poland Develops 'Comprehensive Concept' for the EU.


Europe and the UK must create a joint institution to finance rearmament
Poland's Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański stated that European countries, including the UK, should jointly create an institution that will finance their rearmament during this turbulent period. Increasing defense spending has become a priority, especially after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded that NATO member countries allocate 5% of GDP for this purpose. Poland has already made the reduction of defense spending its priority and is working on a 'comprehensive concept' for European defense financing. One option is to create a Rearmament Bank.
Minister Domański also noted that Poland is negotiating with the UK regarding joint defense financing. They are also considering provisions for exceptions to EU fiscal rules and expanding the definition of defense spending. A final decision is expected to be made no later than May.
