Russia strikes Sumy with missiles: casualties and destruction reported.


Missile strike on the city of Sumy
On Saturday, August 17, a missile strike was carried out by Russian forces on the civilian infrastructure of the city of Sumy. There are casualties and extensive destruction reported.
This information was confirmed by the head of the Sumy city military administration Oleksiy Drozdenko and the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, the missile hit the area of Prospect Svobody, where many cars were destroyed, windows were damaged, and a fire broke out in the parking lot. One person was injured.
Search and rescue operations are currently underway, with assistance already available for one person. All relevant services are working at the scene.
An operational headquarters for the aftermath has been set up, where applications can be submitted in an hour. The address of the headquarters is Prospect Svobody 14/1, where representatives of charitable and international organizations provide assistance. Organizations like 'Dobrobat' and 'Prolisok' are repairing damaged windows, while School No. 6 is accepting applications for restoration. UNICEF representatives are also present at the scene.
The regional military administration reported that the civilian infrastructure of the regional center was affected by the missile strike. Many cars were destroyed at the municipal enterprise 'Parking'. Firefighters managed to contain the fire, and despite the damage to vehicles, no one was injured.
The Air Force reported that the 'Iskander-K' missile was launched from the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation and hit Sumy.
They also showed how the State Emergency Service (DSNS) firefighters extinguished the fire that broke out after the strike. The fire destroyed 10 cars in the parking lot near the multi-story residential buildings but did not spread.
In Horlivka, there were also casualties from airstrikes on the military equipment depots of Russian occupiers.
