On August 18, 2024, the legendary French actor Alain Delon passed away at the age of 88. The information about his death was confirmed by the artist's three children in a comment for Agence France-Presse.

Delon began his film career in 1957 and quickly became one of the most famous faces of European cinema. Among his most famous works are roles in the films "Purple Noon", "Rocco and His Brothers", "The Leopard", "The Unvanquished", "Le Samouraï", and "The Sicilian Clan". The actor gained particular popularity through his portrayal of gangsters, which he masterfully brought to life on screen. Although Delon never acted in Hollywood, his talent and charisma earned him recognition not only in Europe but also in the USA and Asia.
Since the 1990s, the actor appeared in films less frequently, and in 2017, he officially announced his retirement from cinema. Delon's last major public appearance took place in 2019 at the Cannes Film Festival, where he received an honorary "Palme d'Or" for his contribution to cinema.
In recent years, the actor's health deteriorated, especially after suffering a stroke in 2019. Delon rarely left his estate, where he spent most of his Time.
For Ukrainians, Alain Delon is remembered not only for his outstanding roles but also for his active support of the country after the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. From the first days of the war, the actor repeatedly expressed his support for Ukraine. In 2022, he participated in an interview with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and also read works by Taras Shevchenko as part of a television program.
For his support of Ukraine, Delon was recently awarded the "Order of Merit". Representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in France noted the symbolic significance of this gesture, emphasizing the importance of support from such an influential figure in world cinema.
