Pensions in Ukraine continue to grow, but the difference between payments for ordinary pensioners and certain categories of citizens remains.

The editorial team of Novyny.LIVE explains how pension payments for ordinary Ukrainians and judges have changed in 2025.

How much pensions have grown in Ukraine

As of June 2025, the average pension amount in Ukraine has risen to 6,410 hryvnias, compared to the beginning of the year when this amount was 5,789 hryvnias.

The highest payments are received by retired judges - over 109 thousand hryvnias per month, while most pensioners receive significantly less. For example:

  • up to 4,000 hryvnias - over 3.6 million people;
  • up to 5,000 hryvnias - nearly 5.7 million people.

The head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Danilo Hetmantsev, addressed the Pension Fund with a question regarding the largest payments in Ukraine.

According to the response, judges can receive pensions up to 390 thousand hryvnias, while former prosecutors receive from 119 to 219 thousand hryvnias.

'Undoubtedly, pensions should be dignified. But not for the select few - for all Ukrainians who have worked honestly all their lives.' - emphasizes Hetmantsev.

There are also over 521 thousand citizens in Ukraine entitled to a seniority pension, with their payments averaging 12,486 hryvnias.

How pensions are calculated in Ukraine

According to the Pension Fund, the amount of pension depends on three main factors: length of service, salary level, and average salary in the country.

  1. Length of service.
  2. Salary level of the individual.
  3. Average salary in the country.

The average salary over the last three years is 15,057 hryvnias. For example, if a person worked for 35 years and earned an average salary, their pension would be about 5,269 hryvnias. In the case of double salary, the pension would rise to 10,539 hryvnias.

Despite the growth of pensions, most elderly Ukrainians still face survival issues as prices for food, medicine, and services rise faster than payments.

In August, some categories of pensioners might receive additional allowances based on age, health status, or merits. There are also benefits for elderly individuals, helping to reduce expenses.

Pensions in Ukraine continue to grow, but inequality in payments is noted between ordinary pensioners and specific groups of citizens, including judges and former prosecutors. The calculation of the pension amount is based on the length of service, salary, and average salary in the country. Despite the increase in pensions, many elderly Ukrainians experience financial difficulties due to rising prices for consumer goods and services.
