Colombians switch to bicycles as they face fines for driving cars: what is the reason.

Without cars and motorcycles: Bogotá celebrates Day without Transport
Today, February 6th, Bogotá (the capital of Colombia) will celebrate a new Day without cars and motorcycles, an initiative aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of choosing more sustainable and eco-friendly means of transportation. This is reported by Semana magazine.
On this day, private transport will be banned in certain areas of the city. This will force people to find other modes of transport. Drivers of private cars and motorcycles will have to switch to public transport, bicycles, or walk to get to work or other destinations. Violations of the rules on this day will result in a fine.
A new way of movement in Bogotá
On February 6th, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, the city will become a scene where pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users will take center stage, promoting more eco-friendly travel habits.
This initiative will help reduce traffic and improve air quality in the city. About two million vehicles will remain off the roads. Additionally, the event aims to raise awareness about the importance of using more eco-friendly modes of transport to build cleaner and more efficient cities.
Exceptions to the rule
On this day, public transport offerings will increase to meet passenger demand. Exceptions to the rule will be made for emergency vehicles, school transportation, valuable transport vehicles, presidential convoys, hearses, military vehicles, public transport, security services, and electric vehicles.
