The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reported a phone conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, on May 8, 2025. During the conversation, the leaders congratulated the peoples of both countries on Victory Day in Europe – the victory over Nazism. Zelensky also congratulated Trump on the ratification of the agreement on economic partnership by the Verkhovna Rada, which he called 'a truly historic document.'
Discussion of peace

The US President inquired about the situation on the battlefield, and Zelensky briefly informed him. Ukraine confirmed its readiness for a 30-day ceasefire starting today and expects Russia's agreement to this proposal. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format, but for this, Russia must demonstrate seriousness in its intentions to end the war.
Trump confirmed his desire to end the war, his readiness to help, and the support for the need for a ceasefire. As a result of the conversation, the presidents agreed on further contacts.
