Ukraine will not return to pre-war trading conditions with the EU

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval stated that there are no plans to return to pre-war trading conditions with the European Union. However, the parties aim to find a compromise that will satisfy the interests of Ukrainian and European farmers.

During a meeting with European Commissioner for Agriculture Christoph Hansen, Vitaliy Koval agreed to discuss the actual dynamics of trade and address key issues concerning the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

'Previously, we saw more emotions from the EU side, and these emotions were fueled by some media outlets. The meeting was very constructive and was based precisely on discussions. The most important thing to understand is that the positive interim result of such a first delegation is that there will definitely be no return to the trading conditions that were in place before the war,' Koval noted.

The Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring stability in rural areas of Ukraine and providing Ukrainian farmers with the opportunity to export their products to the European market, which is premium.

'It is also worth noting that 52% of all agricultural products we export from Ukraine is directed to European markets,' added Vitaliy Koval.

Ukraine does not plan to return to pre-war trading conditions with the EU and is seeking compromise solutions to the issues of the agricultural sector. The meeting of Minister Vitaliy Koval with Commissioner Christoph Hansen proved to be constructive and helped discuss problematic issues. For Ukraine, it is important to ensure the stability of rural areas and provide Ukrainian farmers access to the European market, which is premium for their products. It is noted that more than half of Ukrainian agricultural products are exported to Europe.
