Usually, a musty odor occurs when mold appears on the towels. Therefore, it is important to ensure that towels are not left on the floor and are not folded in several layers before they dry.
To freshen up towels, they should be washed in hot water with vinegar. Rugs can be washed together with towels using regular laundry detergent with the addition of fabric softener. After washing, towels should be dried well either in the machine or hung on a rack or towel dryer.
In the winter period, towels and rugs can take a very long time to dry. Therefore, for faster drying, they should be hung near a window or in a place with good ventilation. Additionally, it is necessary to avoid having rugs and towels placed on top of each other or very close. Also, turning them every two hours is recommended for better results.
It is advised to wash bath rugs every three to seven days and completely replace them every two years. And in the winter, when rugs may not dry at all, regular washing helps to eliminate bacteria.
